Why are fetish-es so weird?

My friend has these weird fetishes.
They are:
Bath fetish (being washed)
sponge fetish ( being given a bath with a sponge or scrub brush)
being bathed with the above by a robot
being cuddled and dominated by a robot
being fed, held etc. with a robot
being babied by a robot
what may make him like this kind of stuff? he’s not into robots, star wars trek or any other space robot crap. he is just a normal guy, with with almost impossible desires.

Meh. You may be making up or exaggerating some of these things, but I’ve actually *ran into* some people online like this. Breaking this down:

–*Most* of these things, like the adult baby aspects of what you describe, happen because someone gets exposed to an image or a scene that trains a person’s mind while they are still young, to associate blissful feelings (and later sexual ones) with the object of desire. With something like shoes, it’s fairly straightforward–some kids clearly got to see more than mom’s or auntie’s feet when they were younger and short enough to *look up* and get an eyeful.

Same thing can happen if someone ends up wearing diapers for too long, or if bedwetting becomes an issue deep into childhood, or even (rarely) the teen years. Dressing up is already a sexualized thing in regular, mainstream human society (most of the time) so this shouldn’t be so big a surprise. If someone has to dress differently for a long time when they’re younger it can put someone at risk for this sort of classical paraphilia.

–Then there are the bigger, more complicated things, like technosexuality. Yeah, it’s a real word.

There’s a lot of theories as to how or why anyone would get started with being attracted to robots, dolls, or “fake people” in general, and most of them are rather controversial. A few folks are of the informal opinion that it’s a side effect of things like asperger’s syndrome, autism or attention deficit disorders. But there’s really no proof of that.

What there is proof of is that these people can and do have a really *different* sort of Uncanny Valley response than most folks. Fake people of a messed-up, “broken” sort aren’t repulsive to these folks–and some even find the “broken machine” thing a turn on.

I’m thinking that what this may boil down to is that a lot of folks are drawn to certain textures, materials and colors (of things like leathers or latex) that are really artificial looking and somewhat dehumanizing in themselves. That’s already there….the sensual draw to the materials…then you combine that with the clear control issue that exists with something artificial that you make or program *yourself*, and that will get you 90% of the draw of it.

It’s a desire for perfection that is approachable, that won’t reject you.

I know, it’s weird, but sometimes wanting something so shiny and perfect can be really off-putting, to the point that it leaves people sure that a *human* just plain would reject the whole idea. A human-shaped device wouldn’t. It couldn’t.
